In 2014 BOB4K Cycling was created when a team of police officers/staff decided to embark on a 9-day cycling challenge from Lands End to John O'Groats. The team decided to fund raise at the same time for Caudwell Children Charity. What originally started as a small challenge was going to become something much bigger, with non-police members joining the team we went onto raise £26k for the charity!
The team decided that after the success of the 2014 challenge they would cycle Blackpool to Paris in 2015. The team was open to all and with new members the riders left a sunny Blackpool Tower in September 2015. The months of fundraising and training was well worth it as the team landed in Paris having raised £27k for Caudwell Children Charity.
It was decided in 2016 the group would become officially affiliated with British Cycling, and in February this was completed. The club then went on to cycle 5 countries in 5 days (Euro 500). Again raising a further £27,703 for Caudwell Children Destination Dreams. The club is pleased to be supported by Caudwell Children, the charity very much at the heart of this team.
In 2017 the club took on the challenge of Battle The Dragon. A five day grueling test through the hills of Wales. This was the hardest challenge the team have done to date with endless climbs with horrid rain and wind for 5 days. But the challenge was worth it, the team raised over £20,000! In the process passing over £100,000 raised by the club since forming.
2018 witnessed the team back on the continent taking on Beaches and Battlefields. This saw the team cycling over 5 days from France through Belgium and taking in a number of World War sites. The team raised £18,211 towards the 2018 Caudwell Children Destination Dreams.
2019 witnessed a team of riders complete a tough 5 day ride from Berlin to Brussels. A challenge that was harder than planned as a nice wind made cycling even tougher. But everyone completed 500 miles and in the process raised another £18,380 for Caudwell Children.
2020 will see the club doing a few smaller events but continuing to raise money for Caudwell Children as well as the UK Police Memorial Fund this year.
We are a club of cyclists who enjoy cycling, we are not competitive, we are friendly. The aim of this team is fundraising for a worthy charity through cycling. So if you enjoy cycling and making new friends then this club could be for you.
